Nisan 8 – The Arrival of the Lamb
Yeshua journeys to Bethany; Passion Week begins.
(Wednesday evening to Thursday evening)
As the sun dipped beneath the Judean hills, twilight marked the start of a new biblical day—Nisan 8—and with it, the final countdown to redemption began. The Gospel of John records:
“Six days before the Passover, Yeshua came to Bethany…”
— John 12:1
Bethany, a small village just over the Mount of Olives from Jerusalem, was more than a place of rest. It was the home of Lazarus, whom Yeshua had raised from the dead, and his sisters, Mary and Martha—devoted friends who welcomed the Messiah not as a stranger, but as family.
This moment marked more than a stop on the way to Jerusalem. It was a deliberate act of prophetic timing. Yeshua, the Lamb of God, had entered the final week of His earthly mission. The hour had come. No longer would He say, “My time has not yet come.” Now, every step forward would fulfill prophecy—not according to the Gregorian calendar, but according to Yahweh’s appointed times—the moedim.
Understanding the Time: Sunset to Sunset
Though no specific event is recorded for this evening, we know that Nisan 8 began at sundown on what we now call Wednesday night. In the Hebraic calendar, days begin at sunset, not midnight:
“And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.”
— Genesis 1:5
This understanding shifts everything. What many refer to as "Holy Week" begins here—not on Sunday, but with Yeshua quietly entering Bethany under the cover of twilight, as the prophetic clock begins to strike.
A Quiet Beginning to Passion Week
Perhaps the evening was filled with quiet conversation, a shared meal, or simple rest. The Scriptures don’t elaborate. But what we do know is this: the Lamb had arrived—near the city of David, surrounded by trusted hearts, on the very day the prophetic countdown began.
This wasn’t just the beginning of Passion Week. It was the first unfolding of the appointed times—a divine calendar Yeshua was keeping to the very hour.
Not in a temple.
Not on a throne.
But in a borrowed home.
With love.
With purpose.
And with destiny.
